Living Wood
Public Sculpture Project, Viseu, Spain, 2020
The objective of the Living Wood project is to remind us of the the importance and value of the natural environment. A place that enhances a sense of belonging and a place to rest, slowdown, relax and listen to nature and yourself.
Gardens and parks have become places of retreat, where during the weekend we are searching our escape from the fast pace of the week. But often, also our weekends are busy, with all sorts of things that we didn’t have time for during the week, while working, such as meeting friends, sporting, household repairing, groceries shopping, etc. A walk in the woods becomes just another item on our list and we end up experiencing the nature in the same hasty and efficient way we pass through our weekdays. The woods become mainly a passageway with a limited time.

Living Wood give visitors the opportunity to stop. To sit, rest and immerse oneself in the wood. It becomes an extension of our home, our Livingroom without walls. Here people can read through books that will be available within the seating area in protected shelves. The books will teach visitors about Fontelo Wood, its wildlife and about general environmental issues.
Living Wood is asking us to pause, to relax, to read or chat with a friend following the pace and the rhythm of nature, accompany by its smell, sound, color and shape. Finally, taking time for ourselves and re-connect with the earth and nature.

Living Wood encourages the user to explore new compositions of furniture elements. The position of the furniture elements can be adjusted to fit the needs of the users, allowing an optimization of experience. Made from recycled wood, the furniture blends into its natural surroundings.
